Amira Elias’ Message for the International Day of Peace

Every year on 21 September, the United Nations marks the International Day of Peace, a day for reflection, dialogue and a shared commitment to non-violence. The 2026 theme, “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” reminds us that peace isn’t only something governments negotiate. Each of us builds it through how we act in our families, neighbourhoods and communities.

In that spirit, we are proud to share a video contribution from Amira Elias, President of the Association of Muslim Women of Quebec and a valued member of our Quebec Chapter. Amira’s message is part of Montreal’s “Peace Days”, a series of events and reflections running from 21 September to 2 October 2026.

Amira’s work with the Association of Muslim Women of Quebec shows what investing in peace looks like day to day. It means building bridges between communities, giving women a voice, and encouraging mutual understanding across faiths and cultures. Her message reminds us that peace starts with small, deliberate acts of respect and care, and that everyone has something to contribute.

We invite you to watch her video, share it with friends and family, and think about one way you can invest in peace this week.

As part of Peace Days, the CCMW Quebec Chapter is also hosting Chai and Chat on Sunday, 27 September 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at CRC CDN, Room 602, 6767 Ch. Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal. It’s an afternoon of peace verses from the Quran, meditation, crafts, and to have chai and samosas with neighbours and interfaith guests.
