Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam — an obligation for those who meet the nisab — meant to redistribute wealth and support those in need.
It is a divine obligation with societal impact, purifying wealth while helping those left most vulnerable.
Zakat is due once a year on qualifying wealth. It is not charity — it is worship.
