The Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) has launched a multilingual social media public awareness campaign to combat gender-based violence (GBV) titled, End GBV, Heal Together.
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about gender-based violence while also introducing CCMW’s GBV project that addresses barriers for Muslim women and girls facing GBV.
It can be challenging for Muslim women facing gender-based violence to access services and supports that are culturally sensitive and that affirm their identities and experiences. CCMW’s gender-based violence project will develop a systemic change strategy and tools to address barriers Muslim women face in dealing with GBV. The project will also provide services coordination for Muslim women facing GBV.
CCMW’s Executive Director, Nuzhat Jafri, touched on the importance of this campaign and project, “This is something that we’re doing by Muslim women, for Muslim women and girls…there is a necessity for our communities to educate themselves about the subject and also learn about prevention because unfortunately, like all communities around the world, gender-based violence is a reality in our own communities.”
The End GBV, Heal Together campaign materials can be found on CCMW’s Website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and TikTok. Campaign materials will also be available in Arabic, Bangla, English, Farsi, French, Pushto, Somali and Urdu.
