The ASPIRE Project (Addressing Systemic Problems and Inequities to Resolve Employment Issues) was a national, three-year initiative launched in January 2023 and led by the Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW), with funding from Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE).
ASPIRE addressed systemic employment barriers faced by Muslim women in Canada by centring lived experiences, engaging employers and community partners, and turning research into practical, equity-focused action.
Our Approach:
CCMW conducted national quantitative and qualitative research, including analysis of 2021 Census data, surveys, focus groups, and interviews with Muslim women, employers, and employment service providers. This research examined barriers such as discrimination, underemployment, and limited opportunities for career advancement.

Drawing on the project’s findings, CCMW developed practical resources and workshop modules for:
Employers, to support inclusive recruitment, retention, and advancement practices
Muslim women, to support employment access, workplace navigation, and career progression
National Employment Conference:
In November 2025, CCMW hosted a National Employment Conference to launch the ASPIRE workshop modules and share key findings from the project. The conference brought together employers, community partners, and Muslim women from across Canada to advance employment equity in practice.
