The Alia Hogben Scholarship is awarded in memory of Alia Hogben, a beloved former Executive Director of CCMW who dedicated her life to social work and the advancement of Muslim women in Canada.
A trained social worker, Alia spent decades serving in agencies focused on child welfare, children’s mental health, and support for adults with developmental disabilities, as well as organizations addressing violence against women and girls. In 2012, she was appointed to the Order of Canada in recognition of her unwavering commitment to the equity, equality, and empowerment of Canadian Muslim women.
This scholarship honours her legacy by supporting Muslim women who are following in her footsteps — pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) at a Canadian college or university. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to women’s equality and community engagement, values Alia embodied throughout her remarkable life.
Each award is valued at $3000 and is paid directly to the recipient upon confirmation of enrolment.
