The Atlantic Chapter of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women is proud to share the release of a new resource:
“Building Safer Communities Together: Preventing Gender-Based Violence through Community-Led, Culturally Grounded Action.”
Developed in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, this toolkit supports Muslim women and Muslim gender-diverse people by providing accessible, culturally grounded guidance on recognizing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV).
This initiative was led by CCMW’s Atlantic Chapter in partnership with the Anti-Racism Coalition Newfoundland and Labrador, with funding support from Office for Women and Gender Equality Newfoundland and Labrador, and developed by Shazia Shaheen of Rootwell Consulting.
Grounded in the lived realities of the St. John’s community, the toolkit reflects diverse cultural, linguistic, and migration experiences. It is designed to:
- Build understanding of GBV in its many forms
- Reduce stigma, silence, and isolation
- Support informed decision-making and help-seeking
- Encourage community care and healing
