FGM/C Virtual Training

Warda Warsame from End FGM Canada Network will be presenting and sharing FGM/C-related info/experiences on May 26 from 6-8 pm EST.

FGM/C is the acronym for female gential mutilation/cutting and is sadly practiced in Canada and the rest of the world.

FGM/C is is a procedure performed on women or girls to alter or injure her genitalia for non-medical reasons. It causes severe health problems and is a violation of girls’ and women’s fundamental human rights. There are many names for this practice, including “female circumcision”, “female genital cutting”, “khatna”, “sunat”, “sunat perempuan”, “qodiin”, “fanadu”, “bolokoli”, “nyaaka”, “tohara”, and many other terms that are used in different local contexts and communities.

The World Health Organization defines Female Genital Mutilation as all procedures that involve the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. This is definitely an extreme form of violence against women and girls.
