CCMW was formed in 1982, when a group of dynamic and devout Muslim women led by the late Dr. Lila Fahlman, came together in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to claim their space and identities. These women were passionate about bringing equality, equity and empowerment to Canadian Muslim women and girls and sought to mobilize their passion for social justice and faith to enrich their communities and work towards the common good of Canadian society. 40 years later, we are proud of all that CCMW has achieved.

We continue to be the face and voice for many women, who are forgotten or stigmatized due to their faith and visibility. We aspire to fight for their rights and their status within their families and their communities. We look forward to celebrating this milestone year with you as we forge ahead with helping our Muslim sisters remain true to their Islamic heritage and Canadian identity.
