Opportunity: Governance and Human Resources Consultant

The Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) is seeking a Consultant specializing in not-for-profit governance and management.  The Consultant will determine the feasibility of transitioning the board of directors from a working board to a policy governance board and, if deemed feasible, assist the board in transition planning and implementation.  The transition will include moving the CCMW from a not-for-profit to a charitable organization.  The Consultant will also develop and assist in implementing a Human Resources (HR) plan for long-term operational capacity and sustainability and facilitate development of CCMW’s next five-year strategic plan.

Responsibilities

  • Review current structure and practices

  • Develop a transition plan from current state to new governance and charitable state

  • If deemed feasible, develop a policy governance model for CCMW

  • Develop board and chapters manuals

  • Develop and deliver training for board members on new model

  • Develop an orientation webinar for new board members

  • Complete functional analysis of work carried out by national board and staff

  • Identify functions that would best be performed by staff rather than board members

  • Develop organizational structure and positions to carry out the functions identified

  • Complete position descriptions

  • Develop an implementation plan

  • Develop board and HR succession plan

  • Facilitate strategic planning and complete 2022-2027 strategic plan

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience in non-for-profit governance and management consulting and/or practice

  • 5-10 years of experience in human resources as a generalist, consultant or manager

  • Relevant academic qualifications and CHRP designation

  • Demonstrated strategic planning experience in the not-for-profit sector

  • Experience in transitioning organizations from not-for-profit to charitable status

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and competing priorities

  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in MS-Office Suite, use of social media and project management tools

Position Type

This is a fee-for-service contract for a total value of $30,000, including HST, based in the Greater Toronto Area. Qualified candidates are required to submit their cover letter and CV to info@ccmw.com by 5:00 p.m., May 26, 2021.  Only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
