1. What have been the most rewarding aspects of your work so far?

The most rewarding aspect of the work I do is the people I meet along the way. I have a natural gravitation towards people, and they are the reason I do what I do—I am nothing without them. Interacting with them after an event or online makes the work I do feel surreal, even though I don’t believe I’m doing much. Seeing whose lives I'm able to change, even in the slightest way, during the smallest of interactions is incredibly fulfilling.

2. What have been some of the more challenging aspects?

The most challenging aspect for me is trying to be there for everyone and do everything without overextending myself, burning out, or disappointing those around me. Balancing my commitments while maintaining my well-being and meeting others' expectations is a delicate juggling act. I strive to provide support and assistance without sacrificing my own mental and physical health. It's about finding the right balance between giving my all and recognizing my limits, ensuring that I can continue to be there for others in the long run.

3. Name a Black Muslim woman who has been an inspiration to you and why.

Honestly, it's difficult to name just one black Muslim woman who has inspired me, and I mean that sincerely. Call me corny, but I truly mean it when I say that every interaction I've had with a black Muslim woman has been an inspiration, a motivation, a source of upliftment, and a fountain of knowledge for me. Black Muslim women are incredible individuals, and the community itself is a testament to that fact.

4. In light of the prevailing atrocities we are witnessing in regions such as Gaza, Sudan, and Congo, please provide insights into potential avenues for demonstrating solidarity with the affected populations, as well as healing mechanisms you have been using to cope during this time.
Personally, I have used my platform to speak up and share about the atrocities going on and the ways we can help, whether it’s a protest, a boycott, or an event to learn or donate towards the region. Islam has been my biggest healing mechanism, putting my faith in god and that he is just in these times. Making dua for the regions, as well as having open and honest conversations about what is going on.
