WWI Honouree

Salwa Farooqi

Salwa Farooqi is a first year resident-physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Toronto. She completed her medical training at UofT and graduated with the Golden Stethoscope Award as well as Student Award of Merit for her quality patient care and community involvement. She graduated with a Masters in Health Research Methodology with a specialization in Clinical Epidemiology at McMaster University.

Salwa is passionate about women’s health and has developed her career around advocacy and patient education. Specifically, she is a co-founder for Women’s Health Education Made Simple – a social media platform used to educate and empower women to take control of their own health. To date, they have published more than 30 videos, over 100 infographics and have expanded to a full team of more than 15 members. They have been awarded two scholarships in recognition for their work in advancing the status of women.

Salwa has also advanced her scholarly interests by travelling to Cape Town, South Africa and Mexico City to present her research at international conferences. In her downtime she enjoys videography and interior design – she is always on the hunt for a good deal.
