Saher Ahmed is an Afghan-Pakistani researcher and academic-practitioner at the University of British Columbia. Saher dedicates her professional and academic pursuits to examining migration governance, displacement, and racialized policies on migration. As a PhD student in Global Studies, Saher is currently researching the surveillance of migrants at international borders and the political geography of people on the move. As a human rights advocate, Saher volunteers with community organizations to raise awareness around socio-economic barriers experienced by equity-deserving people, and the importance of intercultural development in policy and program implementation for organizations.
She also leads the international advising and intercultural programming team at the Global Engagement Office at UBCO. Saher’s expertise on social inequities through her professional and academic pursuits allows her to understand more thoroughly the needs of equity-deserving communities.
