Rania El Mugammar

WHAT HAVE BEEN THE MOST REWARDING ASPECTS OF YOUR WORK SO FAR?

The most rewarding aspect of my work has honestly been getting to apply, share and grow the skills in community work, interdependence, intervention, resistance and care labour that I learned from Black women in my life, especially from the Black Muslim women in my family.

WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF THE MORE CHALLENGING ASPECTS?

Every day, I walk into spaces that try to make me (and sometimes not so life like me) smaller. I try to teach abundance in spaces drenched with scarcity, collectiveness and kinship to folks schooled only in individualism, abolition to we who are so attached to punishment and it’s a constant resistance, hypervigilance and battle.

NAME A BLACK MUSLIM WOMAN WHO HAS BEEN AN INSPIRATION TO YOU.

Our revolutionary kin, Mariame Kaba!
