WHAT HAVE BEEN THE MOST REWARDING ASPECTS OF YOUR WORK SO FAR?

There has been a kind of freedom I’ve experienced being able to do work within my communities, and amplifying Black Muslim experiences. That freedom is 100% rewarding.

WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF THE MORE CHALLENGING ASPECTS?

I get really hopeful when I see social shifts via movements like Black Lives Matter and the resurgence we saw in the summer of 2020. But I also get a little skeptical of non-Black people’s motivations and commitments. It’s challenging when you don’t know if people are joining Black liberatory movements for their own personal gain. Meanwhile, Black people have no choice but to fight for our freedom every day.

NAME A BLACK MUSLIM WOMAN WHO HAS BEEN AN INSPIRATION TO YOU.

There are so many! My mom – Jackie Taylor, Professor Afua Cooper, Dr Siham Rayale, and of course my good friend Zahra Grant.
