Community Building: A Field Guide

The content of this field guide has been developed with collaboration from many amazing young people from across Canada.

We are grateful to young leaders at CityHive (Vancouver), The Green Room (Edmonton), Words, Rhyme & Life (Toronto), the Lotus Community Corner (Ottawa), the Taskeena Foundation (Ottawa), Project Downtown (Montreal) and the Ilm Foundation (Montreal) for their contributions to this field guide.

The support of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, and the leadership of past and current Executive Directors Alia Hogben and Nuzhat Jafri, has been essential for the success of our community building work. They have been wonderful mentors and guides.

This field guide was written and edited by Stephane Pressault and Rizwan Mohammad.

Community Works

The purpose of the Community Works project is to serve as a vehicle to collaborate on community building activities with diverse young people. We will focus on meeting the needs of those who are under-represented in positions of influence in their communities, institutionally under-supported and under-resourced in their social justice work. Through this project, we will work inclusively with diverse youth to build communities that champion values expressed in Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
