International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Canadian Council of Muslim Women stands in solidarity with women and girls around the world in condemning all forms of violence, abuse, and discrimination that affect the lives of countless individuals.

We recognize that violence against women is a pervasive and deeply rooted issue that knows no boundaries of race, religion, or socioeconomic status. It is imperative that we unite as a global community to address the systemic issues that contribute to the prevalence of violence against women and work collaboratively to eradicate it.

In addition, CCMW is deeply concerned about violence faced by women and their families in Palestine. The ongoing genocide in the region has disproportionately impacted Palestinian women, subjecting them to severe forms of violence. Women in Palestine endure the harsh realities of conflict, facing displacement, loss of livelihoods, and the erosion of basic human rights.

As an organization committed to promoting the rights and well-being of Muslim women in Canada, we emphasize the importance of acknowledging the diverse experiences within our communities. Muslim women, like all women, should be free from the fear of violence and have the right to live their lives with dignity and respect.

CCMW calls for increased awareness, education, and dialogue to challenge the harmful stereotypes and misconceptions that perpetuate gender-based violence. It is crucial that we foster an environment where survivors feel supported, heard, and empowered to come forward, and where perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

In our pursuit of a world free from violence against women, we call on governments, civil society, religious leaders, and individuals alike to actively participate in creating and implementing policies that promote gender equality, protect the rights of women, and ensure justice for survivors.
