The Canadian Council of Muslim Women has responded to a need expressed by both Muslims and non-Muslims for concise, accurate and relevant information, primarily prepared for Canadians.
The task of presenting information which is academically sound and at the same time accessible has been challenging. We hope that we have accomplished the task.
This book could not have been published without the active involvement of all the women who attended the CCMW Conference of 1999, in Toronto; the academic support of Professors Sajida Alvi of McGill University and and Lynda Clarke of Concordia University and the financial support of the Department of Canadian Heritage, Multiculturalism.
We thank the authors for their enthusiasm, research and willingness to revise often so that the book can reach a broad spectrum of our non-Muslim friends as well as Muslims.
In producing this booklet on Islam, our intentions have all been well meant, however, we recognize that not everyone will be satisfied. We ask God, the authors and all those who assisted us for their forgiveness and forbearance for any errors of omission or commission which may appear in this booklet.
Please note that there is an Evaluation Form, we would appreciate hearing from you, the readers.
