2008 Winners
CCMW is pleased to announce that Wendy Mitchell from Alberta and
Natasha Nizam from Ontario were the recipients for the Lila Fahlman
Scholarships for 2008. Aresha Zubair was the recipient of the Hassan Law
Scholarship. Merisha Gadzo was the recipient for the Muslim Women in
Leadership Scholarship.
We congratulate these women and wish them all the best in the upcoming
school year.

2007 Winners
- Rehana Akhter
- Master's degree from Dhaka University, Bangladesh in Sociology, currently pursuing MA in Arts
- Volunteers with project genesis and Jobra Center in Montreal, working with multicultural communities to ensure their social and legal rights in the Cote-des-Neiges and Parc-Extension district
- Referees say 'Rehana is not afraid to raise important issues that reflect the needs and interests of women, Muslim women, immigrants, mothers, students and people living with limited income'. They also commented that 'Ms. Akhter is an inspiring model of participation in one's community…she is able to meet the challenges of maintaining a high level of commitment to her community while also attending school and assuming her responsibilities as a single mother'.
- Tahira Ebrahim
- BComm degree, will be pursuing her Master's in Education
- Volunteer with Bow Valley College teaching adult learners ESL, mentor with Alberta Mentor Foundation for Youth, education tutor for young Afghani girls
- She says 'having known Lila Fahlman as a much younger child growing up, I did not yet comprehend the impact she has made and the image she projected of Muslim women. However, now understanding her achievements an the obstacles she overcame, I can more than appreciate the privilege and responsibility that comes with this scholarship. I too hope to become a pioneer in my own right, in supporting the development and sustainability of Muslim women participation and leadership within society'
- Referees say ' Tahira is dedicated and passionate about female Muslim engagement in community, education, politics and development. I believe Tahira will be a significant community leader and has already demonstrated that she puts her values to practice through her actions and her sacrifices of time and self.'
