CCMW INVITED TO SYRIA, LEBANON, JORDAN AND ITALY, 03/02/07- 03/23/07
CCMW was invited by the Canadian Government to
visit Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Italy March 2- March
23/07. Alia Hogben, CCMW’s ED represented CCMW. The
intent of the venture was:
-
To provide the Embassies the opportunity to gather
people and to create further partnerships so that there
could be sharing of ideas between Canada and the
particular country, specifically about our model of
Multiculturalism and its actual implementation.
-
To have an NGO present, so that it showcases the
realities of how the model works within Canada. This
allows for frank and open discussion of both the
strengths and challenges of the model.
-
To honestly and without prejudice, inform people about
Muslims in Canada from the perspective of a Muslim
organization.
-
To provide the Canadian Council of Muslim Women the
opportunity to present our perspective, to learn about
the countries visited, to create linkages and to
demonstrate what it is to be Canadian, Muslim and women.
-
To allow CCMW to share with Canadians the experiences
gained and to let people know of the high interest in
these countries about Canada and Muslims.
